Inauguration of Anaganwadi Classroom sponsored by Mitra Fiundation –

I am blessed to have been able to attend the Independence Day celebration at the Government school in Annasandrapallya today. I and Shubha have been visiting this school very regularly since last year for voluntary teaching activity. We go there once a week to teach the Anganwadi children English

rhymes and songs. The principal of the school is very keen on providing the children exposure and opportunities to learn several things apart from the things that their regular teachers teach them. I have a passion for teaching tiny tots and my preschool facilitator training helps me to connect with the tiny tots easily. I thought this opportunity to teach rhymes to the kids is an excellent chance for me to be of some help to the school since they are so passionate about teaching their students a variety of things. When we started going there, we realized that the room in which the anganwadi functions is small and it is a bit crammed particularly because many children attend school regularly. Plus we also came to know that though the food grains etc come from the government as a part of the mid day meals, they still need vegetable, big vessels for cooking. That’s when shubha thought of connecting potential donors and the school through Mitra foundation. Since Jan Sahayog initiative of Mitra foundation was initiated for the purpose of doing activities for the locality, this was the best way to connect the school with the donors.
Within a few days, a group of ladies came forward to sponsor the vegetables and the vessels for the anganwadi and it is running smoothly now. Soon another donor donated a fridge to the school and now the teachers are able to buy more vegetables at a reasonable price and are able to store them in the fridge so that they can use it the whole week through. When they have excess funds, they also procure fruits for the children.
Once this was set, Shubha and Manish from Mitra foundation took initiative to look into building a structure in the school for the anganwadi. Their active communication with the community brought in a lot of donors who came forward to sponsor the expenses for the structure. The anganwadi now has a well lit and well ventilated room and also a toilet next to it, thanks to the donors and the coordination and follow up of Mitra foundation members.
Today during the Independence Day event, this room was officially inaugurated and the anganwadi classes will now be held in it henceforth.

I am inspired by the proactive principal of the school Shri Pooja Obalappa ji who leaves no stone unturned when it comes to doing things for the school. Last year the school received the Swatch School award and this year, Shri Obalappa ji has received the state award for best teacher.

It is my privilege to be able to volunteer in this school and for being able to witness the progress of the school.

I wish the school a bright future in the pursuit of excellence in education. And I congratulate Mitra foundation for the Jan Sahayog initiative and wish Mitra foundation best luck in all its endeavours towards empowering families and institutions and community through the Jeevanshakti and Jan Sahayog initiatives.
