The Jana Sahayog (LBS Nagar) was initiated under Mitra Foundation in 2014 to encourage and provide a channel for the residents of LBS Nagar and surrounding area to share their well-being with underprivileged in the area. The focus has been on education related needs in the govt schools and aanganwadi’s, conducting preventive health camps, blood donation camps, and to conduct organized activities for the youth of the area. The current Covid19 situation and the related lock down in the country has triggered us into broadening our focus. Thanks to a chance interaction and request from the team at the BMST-TTK blood bank, and the following decision to get add support to the community in times of need (as in the current situation) and to expand our area to LBS Nagar and its surrounding areas.

Since we have made this decision the team and volunteers of Mitra Foundation – Jana Sahayog initiative are looking for way to give back to the community in the current situation. We have completed two weeks of our involvement in the Covid19 necessitated relief activities in and around our area. In this two weeks we had supported over 2900 meals (~200/day) and a total of 215 food kits to various people in need.

The work is spread across Annasandrapalya, LBS Nagar, Sudhama Nagar and Ananda Puram in JeevanBhima Nagar and Thippasandra. It is important to be connected with local ground level realities to make sure you are able to reach to the people with real need. This was possible in our case working with local volunteers, collaborating with the Civil Defence volunteers, through folks employed in our houses about situation in their residential neighborhood, through direct inquiry and working with other organizations(like BMST-TTK) working closer to the supported areas.

Overall, there are multiple pockets of need that rely on the community stepping in, and it is a call for us to do our part. We are already seeing need for supporting another 150+ food kits and 1500 meals, in the coming week. Request you to join us in reaching out our hand of friendship. For your reference, meal for the cost for 5 food kits is about Rs 5000 and for 200 meals is about Rs 2000. Those interested can contribute through the Donate or Volunteer options.

In case you are in an different part or Bangalore or in other parts of India, do encourage you to look in your neighborhood for similar needs, and initiatives already underway and get involved.
